Beautiful hands even in winter: 7 tips to prevent dryness and brittle nails
Winter can be a real challenge for your nails: breakage, dry cuticles, and tight, uncomfortable skin are common during this season. Cold temperatures, wind, dry indoor air from heating, and frequent hand washing all contribute to these problems.
The good news is that with conscious care, you can keep your hands and nails healthy and beautiful even in winter. Follow our tips below!
1. Protect your nails from cold weather
Proper protection is the foundation of winter nail care. Always wear gloves in cold weather, as temperature fluctuations and wind weaken the nail plate and dry out the cuticles. Choose breathable, insulated gloves that protect effectively without causing excessive sweating.
2. Hydration – the secret to beautiful nails
Dry nails crack and break easily, which is why regular hydration is especially important during the winter months. Use a nail care oil enriched with vitamin E and nourishing ingredients. If your nails are natural and free of polish, you can gently massage the oil not only into the cuticles but also into the nail plate itself, helping to support regeneration. When combined with a rich hand cream – such as the Collagen Cream Vanilla & Jasmine 1000ml – the condition of both your hands and nails can be visibly improved.

3. Reduce the harmful effects of chemicals
Frequent hand washing and cleaning products can disrupt the skin’s and nails’ natural balance. During prolonged work involving chemicals, it is advisable to wear nitrile gloves, as they are resistant to chemical substances.
4. Regular filing and shaping
In winter, nails are more prone to cracking and therefore need extra care. Use a fine-grit nail file and always file in one direction. After filing, a quick buff helps seal the nail plate and reduce splitting. To choose the right file, read our article Nail file guide – Which one to use and when?
5. Use a nail strengthening polish
During winter nail care, it’s worth giving natural nails extra protection. Choose a clear nail strengthener enriched with bamboo extract (Base Coat - Nail Hardener 15ml). Its flexible formula is especially recommended after removing gel polish, hybrid polish, or builder gel, and during the regeneration period following artificial nail wear.
6. Nourish your nails from the inside
Your diet has a significant impact on nail health. Biotin-rich foods such as eggs, nuts, and sweet potatoes support nail growth. Zinc, iron, and adequate protein intake also contribute to nail strength and regeneration.
7. Don’t forget about hydration
During the colder months, many people drink less water, even though proper hydration is essential for nail health as well. Consuming 1.5–2 liters of fluids daily helps prevent nail dryness and supports natural renewal.
If you want your hands and nails to stay well-groomed throughout winter, choose high-quality hand and nail care products consciously – regular care is the key during this season.
